Why anyone wears a hat in a sauna

Heat rises. In a Finnish sauna the air at head height runs far hotter than the air at the bench, which is why the first thing that gets uncomfortable is almost always your scalp and ears — not your body.

Wool is the reason this works. It insulates in both directions, so the hat holds the worst of that heat off your head and you stay in longer, more comfortably, without cutting the session short.

It also spares your hair. Dry, repeated high heat is hard on it, and a wool hat is the simplest thing between the two. In Finland this isn’t a novelty — it’s just what you bring, the same way you bring a towel.

Material

100% merino wool felt, 3 mm, pressed in one piece. Handmade in small batches.

Size

One size. The felt gives and sits between roughly 55 and 61 cm — low, over the tops of your ears. Fold the base up for a smaller head.

Care

Hand wash cool with a wool detergent, press the water out, reshape and dry flat. Never the machine, never the dryer.

Shipping

Every hat is made by hand, so your order leaves Canada within five to seven business days. Then three to five business days inside Canada, five to eight to the United States.

Questions

How do I wash it?

Hand wash in cool water with a wool detergent, press the water out without wringing, reshape it and dry flat away from a radiator. Never the machine and never the dryer — heat and agitation are what shrink wool.
Is it one size?

Yes. The felt is loose enough to give and sits between roughly 55 and 61 cm. It should sit low, covering the tops of your ears.
Can I pick my own colours?

How fast does it ship?

Every hat is made by hand, so your order leaves Canada within five to seven business days. From there, standard delivery is three to five business days inside Canada and five to eight to the United States. Express within Canada is one to two.
